CUBIC WEIGHT OF A CARTON

Many retailers are surprised by their first freight invoice as it's a lot higher than they had calculated. This is often because the freight rates of many retailers are based on what is termed "the greater of deadweight and cubic weight".

Deadweight is the actual weight of the package in g or kgs

Cubic Weight

There are 2 steps to calculate the Cubic weight of a carton:

Step 1: Multiply the Length, Width and Height of the carton in metres

Step 2: Multiply the answer from Step 1 by a cubic weight factor.

For Australian domestic deliveries this factor is usually 250.
